You might have been sent this 55-second clip from E!’s The Soup that’s been whizzing around the internets this week. In short, some brain-numbingly boring morning teevee talk show inexplicably cut to a photo of a cat eating spaghetti for a second, right in the middle of a tortured monologue about the dangers of female binge-drinking, and never explained it or even alluded that it had happened.
A spokeperson for Fox has cleared up the mystery: It wasn’t accidental, it’s what they’re calling a “bleep photo”. Now whenever a guest drops an F-bomb (or an S-bomb, or whatever), instead of the traditional “BLEEP” played over the swear, Fox will throw up a random image. I look forward to seeing what other crazy images Fox comes up with, although not enough to actually watch The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet. I assume Joel McHale will keep us apprised of any worthy developments.
This tactic will no doubt severely fuck with the minds of the kind of people who watch this soulless dreck. You know: sleep-deprived housewives with colicky babies, the devastatingly hungover, kids playing hooky to huff household cleaners. I approve. They better not try this tactic with Maury Povich though, or his whole show will just be one hour-long shot of Spaghetti Cat.
Actually, you know what? That would be an improvement over his usual content.

The most significant change in the past two years, we realized, has gone completely overlooked by these bookish geeks with their hoity-toity “statistics.” The emergence of LOLcats and other hilarious internet memes has lightened the mood and created global camaraderie. Who, we ask, who in the world doesn’t love spaghetti cat? [...]
